Once upon a time there was
a tomb of a noble poet,
Vali Gujarati in Ahmedabad
In year 2002, the dargah was demolished
and a temple was constructed
Though Hindus believe that the temples must
always be constructed on the cleanest places,
some mad, fanatics after demolishing Vali's
dargah, constructed temple of Hanuman
near a dirty, dumping site of Garbage.
Today, the garbage site is source of livelihood
of a Dalit couple, who sit in the garbage
whole day and earn their daily bread
When we meet them, they just smile assuming
that somebody is there, eager
to write about them.
She is Jiviben Leuva with her husband.
They reside at Ghoda Camp, Shahibaug
The Moment I saw them, I knew these are
my people. But, I asked,'What is your caste?'
Jiviben said, 'Chamar'
'Don't you have any children?', I ask. The old
man says, 'we had two sons. one son drowned
in river during immersion of Dashama (a new
goddess born in twentieth century). Another
son is digging the pits.'
'Will you write about us?'
'We have BPL card, but it is useless'
The hoarding on the temple:
"shree Sankatmochan Hanuman Mandir
Above Underbridge, Shaibaug,
Pujari: Abhishek Shastri - Joshi Ramanlal - (Sitaram)
The temple is locked.
may have gone to stock market
or for the treatment of syphilis
we don't know!
The fact: Brhamins instigate dalits,
tribals, backward castes; demolish
mosques, dargahs; build temples
and start a business in the
name of religion.
